WE WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER YOU
Take nothing for granted.
Nurture your curiosity.
Smile generously.
Figure out what you want to do,
and work really hard to do it.
Fix things.
Care deeply.
Think deeply.
Love life.
Michael Zebuhr
A native of Buckhannon, WV, Mike Zebuhr graduated summa cum laude from Davis & Elkins College, Elkins, WV, in May 2005 with dual degrees in mathematics and chemistry. Michael became a PhD student in the Department of Bioengineering in the fall of 2005 after two summers as a research intern in the Biomechanics Lab at Clemson through the REU and BBSI summer programs.

On March 19 2006, while on spring break with family, Mike was fatally shot during a robbery in Minneapolis, MN. In his memory, Clemson University established the Michael Zebuhr Memorial Fund.

This fund will be used to support research projects initiated by Clemson bioengineering students. It will be open to either undergraduate or graduate students since Mike, like many of our students, got "hooked" on the field of bioengineering as an undergraduate researcher.  Students can apply for a Michael Zebuhr Memorial Award by submitting a summary of their proposed research, a budget, a resume, and a letter of recommendation.  Award recipients will be chosen based on 1) their research plan and 2) those personal qualities that Mike personified – a strong work ethic, dedication, intelligence, creativity, practicality and enthusiasm.  Through this fund, we hope to keep Mike’s memory alive for our students. He was truly a role model, and it is important for students to know how much he contributed to our department and our field in the short time he was with us.

Donations can be made payable to the Clemson University Foundation:
