"The Institutional Digital Database:
Meeting the Needs of Industry and the Challenge of Enhanced Student Learning"

Abstract: The Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) has made a formal commitment to create a fully outcomes based curriculum across the institute. Titled "Logging our Curriculum", the project is housing the results in a database accessible to faculty over the World Wide Web. The system developed enables instructors with very little prior knowledge of web-based delivery to use the curriculum base to create courses and serve the content over the Web using WebCT. Refinements to the system also enable preparation of documentation for accreditation visits, for curriculum validation by industry and for new program development. Overall, the project assists NAIT become more responsive to the rapidly changing needs of industry; provides faculty with shared curriculum development tools and resources; provides students with more learner-centred materials that follow a pedagogically accepted instructional design model; and provides a standard, simple approach to internet delivery.
